I put it in the run folder, the mod folder, and then I made a run folder inside the mod folder and put it there and no go. Help me out guys.

Well, I guess you don't use Mod Launcher 2 ;D Open up options.cfg and change no_video yes to no_video no

Yes Oleg I do use ML2 and I have changed that line to no_video no and it still doesn't come up for me, not even the original heat. Not sure what's up there?
Which mod Magnus? I have almost all heat mods and I haven't saw one with a custom video yet?

I can make sound work with the .bik file but not sure about in the game yet, but probably not (my luck sucks) I guess I'm about to go back to hex editing for a little while, and try to make the gar's read from the car files.

Hey guys, I did an intro video to my upcoming mod indeed. I had made a 46 second movie with a cool soundtrack but the sound really doesnt work when Heat play it. I did some research following some tips Oleg told me and found out Heat uses something called Bink 'old format' to the sound track. The radtools I got is an updated version, not capable to make such format. That's the problem. For that reason I shortened the movie to 8 seconds. It became just like a logo animation. Despite of that fact, if you have radtools you'll be able to hear the remaining sound of it, cause I kept the soundtrack in the short movie. ========== Hey Brandon, since you are messing some stuff........do you think could be possible to modify a heat button to ask for an external program? I mean.....since we can create standalone movies using radtools. We could have a 'Intro Movie' button that could load and show the movie. Anyway....the most of users will skip the movie after two or three times they watch it. I have a cool video editor and some experience on that too, if you need something I'll be glad to make it for you. My movie had rolling/sliding credits and stuff.....too bad that sound issue. Just give me a shout if you need.

If really needed, Mauro, and anyone. I can make a quick EXE that will launch a BIK-movie EXE file prior to launching the mod, and when it's done playing, Heat will launch. But this way, sound will work for sure. That's in case anyone's interested

Ok, one question then When movie ends, does it quit itself or you have to click some key on the keyboard/mouse to "exit" the movie? ideally, it should close itself automatically when done playing, otherwise it will not work as planned.

Sounds great where would the EXE look for Heat when starting the mod ? Reason I ask is, some mods come shipped with custom EXE and none of those has ever succesfully started on my PC since I don't run Heat from default install folder And I won't be the only one. Heat installs to country-specific default folders....

The video closes itself automatically. ;D I have the short intro ready, it's a 5 meg file. Can send you right now if you want, just tell me how.

actually, Karl, the EXE doesn't really look for Heat, it knows where this EXE itself is located and it goes up directory hierarchy until it find the Heat's EXE and then uses it's path to launch the mod. But how do you launch the mods then? If you can tell me, then probably I can consider it while making this new EXE Oh and Mauro, that's just what is needed! You can send the link by PM if you want, I'll probably be able to do the EXE tonight. [edit] ahh, I use www.yousendit.com service to send files, it's free and no registration. Not the best but it works ;D Just use your email address everywhere where it asks, you only need a link from them, and it will display right after the file is uploaded

I have installed Heat where it did want itself to install on c: (default folder, just a "programme" instead of "program files"), but mods are all located on "d:\nascar heat\" . You can easily change data directory ("run" or "data") by editing registry. Heat then will look for mods there too, the EXE will nonetheless be run from default install folder and cannot be moved.

Ok guys just download this and replace the existing binkw32.dll file in the run folder with this one and the sound will work perfectly ;D Heat was made with Bink 1.0P and the newest bink you can download uses this binkw32.dll file which is version 1.8F, Enjoy the find guys and feel free to post elsewhere just credit me on the find if you want to. 2fnlowdesignz.us/downloads/binkw32.rar

..... What you mean about 'vid pool thing'??
|
|
|
Post by themask on May 8, 2006 12:50:04 GMT -5
Mauro, you get the "vid pool thing" at Le Mans track with mods which have many textures (a game crash in other words). The work around is to remap a lot of stuff in the mod by "squeezing" several textures into bigger ones. You don't need to worry about it unless the mod you're working on is meant to be raced at Le Mans, like for example, GroupC mod
